THE WARM SUN OF SPRING AND BLUE SCREENSHi Space Friends.
How's it going? I hope your Spring is off to a good start.
It has been a little chilly here the last few days, but they are promising a warming trend beginning today. The trees and grass are turning greener all the time and when we get snow it's gone by mid-afternoon.
The Geese are back, so I guess Spring has officially arrived, even if the temps aren't always reflecting it yet.
I'm really looking forward to it warming up though. The sunshine has felt so nice, and I'm looking forward to planting my flowers and egg plants.
Well, I have had a busy and unusual few weeks.
Mom hurt her back just before Christmas, and she is just now beginning to recover. She was getting worse and worse, and I kept saying I thought she should be going to a chiropractor or something. Finally, long story short, after she got so she couldn't do anything except lay down and when she did try to walk it was more of a little shuffle than a walk, she finally decided to go have some work done on it.
(With a little nudge from my sister Karen and myself. Actually we just kind of took the bull by the horns).
But she is beginning to feel better now, and she is walking downright fast compared to being stationery on her back. She isn't doing more than she has to yet, but she is doing more than she was able to do a couple of weeks ago.
I have been doing the cooking (pretty good too if I do say so myself. The fire department hasn't been called out once, and the Emergency Services guy that lives across the alley only came over to bring the dog home. Really! Well, that's my story anyway, and I'm sticking to it.
And I have been doing the housework. Or should I say, falling behind in the housework.
I don't mind. We have 3 dogs, 3 cats, 4 birds and some fish. They are easy enough to take care of, but it takes a lot of time. The birds and fish are Mom's territory, so it has taken me a while to get into the swing of it, but I think I'm finally getting it.
I've wondered if this is how Mama Walton felt with all those kids. You know, Olivia Walton, from The Waltons. They show re-runs every afternoon. (I hope I'm not the only one old enough to remember the Waltons). Anyway, ...
Last week was the Annual Spring Fling our Franchise holds every year. Karen and I went and we really enjoyed ourselves. Not only did we get to meet some very nice people, but we had a nice 'Sister Day'. We don't get to have too many of those anymore, so it was a nice treat for me all the way around. And she let me play the same song over and over and over and over on the way home.
Something else happened recently too ...
I got the 'Blue Screen of Death'.
Yup! The computer crashed.
All my music, all my business stuff, all my pictures ...
GONE GONE GONE
I had nothing backed up of course. The CD Burner on the comp was the first thing to quit working when it was purchased and the Picture program always gave me a real hard time, so I avoided printing pics if I could help it.
The music and documents can all be replaced of course. But you know, when you lose pics, it's like you've lost something tangible of a moment in time that you treasured.
All my Bison pictures, all my Swan pictures, all my flower pictures. Gone to the big picure warehouse in cyber-space, never to return. If it wasn't for what I have here on Spaces and Photobucket I wouldn't even have any 'baby pictures' of my pets.
So thank goodness for Spaces and Photobucket.
Now the computer is acting like it doesn't remember anything. Every time I go to do something I have to re-open the program again.
I don't think this little baby is long for this world.
On a more cheery note however, in the realm of computers, this one is what they would call a Dinosaur. It is about 5 years old I think, so it is a gift from God that it has held out this long. Personally, I don't think they make them to last more than a couple of years at the most. Technology advances so fast the new is old almost before you get it out of the box, so for real Computer Conisseurs (?) 2 years is long enough. For me, I just want to be able to do what I want to do For everything I know how to do I could use the same one for 10 years without needing a new one ...
if it works like it's supposed to that is.
But I don't think it's going to happen with this one.
It even wiped out my Smiley's button. That's why I'm not using my usual Smiley's to communicate with this time. I add buttons and then when I turn the comp on they are gone and I have to add them again, and again, and again,
so I figured, whatever. Just leave well enough alone.
It does seem strange not to have my Smiley's though.
I feel so naked.
Well, I guess I should be on my way. Time, supper dishes and laundry wait for no woman.
Have a GREAT week, and may all your 'Blue Screens' be only figments of your imaginations.
Luv from KassyLand.

BETTER AND BETTER???Hi there!
This just keeps getting better and better!!!
I have found the only way to get to my email is to open Yahoo, click on My Favorites, scroll down to Katherine's Space (which, thank goodness I had the foresight a year and a half ago to add to my favorites list. Well ok. Not so much foresight. When I first opened my Space I had no clue what I had done and I couldn't figure out what I clicked on so I added my space to my favorites list so I could get back to it). Anyway, good thing because with all the changes that have taken place I can't get to my mail any other way it seems.
Now that does seem to me to be having to go the long way around!!!
I'm almost thinking that I'm becoming weary of these changes.
Well, be all that as it may ...
We got a lot of snow this weekend. We're going to have to shovel, shovel, shovel.
I think it's a good idea to just leave it. After all, spring is almost here. It will surely start to melt pretty soon anyway.
But Mom thinks we need to get the garage door open, and the snow is drifted up against it. So I guess she's right.
It's been pretty cold too. I was kind of hoping it would warm up before we have to get out there but it doesn't look like it's going to, not right away anyway. I broke the coffe pot while I was washing it today. I think it was part exhaustion on the part of the glass, and of course, part clumsy. That's only the second time in my life that I remember a coffee maker out living the coffee pot. We have a hard time keeping those things going here. The water is really calcified, so we put the water we injest through a purifier. It gets most of it out, and the chlorine, but even so I have to vinegar it once a week or once every other week. That nurses them along for a while.
Who would have thought the pot would give out before the maker?
I see I have had quite the weekend.
I hope that's all the surprises I get for a while. Maybe I'm getting everything out of the way so the week can run smooth.
I hope your week runs smooth for you too.

I WAS THINKING AGAIN ...Hi all!
How's it goin'? Everything here is pretty good.
We just got another good dump of snow yesterday and a storm is forecast for tomorrow. Yesterday there was a snow fall warning in our part of the Province and I was out in it. Just as we were on our way home it was getting harder to see where I was going. There were a couple times I wasn't sure if I was on the road or the sidewalk, but I didn't feel any big bumps or drive into the side of any buildings or anything like that so I guess I did ok.
I have been thinking about a friend of mine lately.
She took one of those Flower Arranging/Horticulture Training Programs. She said she started out knowing absolutely nothing about plants or anything of that nature and she was in a class with a group of people that had already been trained in that area, but they needed this course to move on in their studies in something else. She said they kept out-doing her in everything because they already knew the material and she was applying herself to learning it and remembering it all for the first time. And when it came to applying what they learned in practice they were better at that too because they had already been doing it. She came to the part in the class where she had to learn about trees, what they were called, their species, how to identify a tree by it's leaf and how to incorporate it into an arrangement, what to put where and what not to use with certain things. She found it all very interesting, but again, the others did much better. It was again, something they already knew.
On the final exam she got 70 and they did much better - way up to around perfect.
I don't know about you but I think I would find that very discouraging. But she said something that has stuck with me, that keeps going thru my head over and over and over ...
She said 'The way I figure it, even though they got higher scores on the test than I did, I actually did better than the rest of them because I learned more than they did. I started out with everything to learn and they started out with nothing to learn. My score reflects my progress'.
The moral of my story is this ... (the drum roll goes here) ...
Don't be too hard on yourself.
Considering what you have had to go through to get to where you are right now, you are probably way farther ahead than you feel, or than it may look to others.
In fact, sometimes just hanging in there may have been a BIG victory.
Like the man said, 'Beyond a wholesome discipline, be GENTLE with yourself'.
Have a nice 'what's left of it' week and an even nicer weekend.

THE REVENGE OF THE CHRISTMAS GOODIESHi there!
It's been a while since I've done much on here. Again.
I can't believe how time goes by. Seems like not that long ago it was New Year's Day and already almost a whole month is passed.
Well anyway ...
I've been popping in to see some of you and not leaving a comment or anything.
Which I think is kind of rude of me to tell you the truth. It's kind of like ringing your doorbell and running.
But you know, you guys do really nice work on your Spaces. You are a very talented bunch.
It's been pretty cold here for the most part. We get one Arctic front out of the way and another one sweeps in. The fluctuation in temps is kind of wierd.
The other day it was about 5C, and 24 hours later it was -30C.
We have done a couple of the -40 or almost -40 wind chills since the New Year.
We are supposed to start getting average temperatures in a few days that is supposed to carry on for a while. That will seem like a heat wave, but I think I'm ready for it.
Has anybody else been having trouble? Everytime I go to do anything anymore I get that 'cannot find server' thing. Or 'the page is expired' or some goof ball thing like that. It's starting to get frustrating. Takes a lot longer to do anything or go anywhere.
I was in a Friend's Guestbook and I went to go to their blog and it said it couldn't find the server.
And what's the deal with the Network thing?! I have Friends on my list and I go to their space and it says I'm not in their Network and I look and I'm not on their list. On one of them the profile picture I had up last year was still there.
What's goin' on with that? I heard when they made the changes that some people lost some friends. I didn't know I was one of them until the other day.
I overdid it this year and ate too much Christmas sugar and it has been taking it's revenge. I haven't felt that great for a while.
All year actually.
I think that sounds funny.
I haven't felt well all year!
LOL
Anyway, I think - I hope - the worst of that is over.
You see, I have a sensitivity to sugar, which is what Christmas is made of, and I knew I was going overboard, and I did it anyway.
So the exzema flared up, so I had these big open ugly sores on my ears. That's where I have it. So I bought this shampoo which is supposed to be for Seborrehic Dermatitis, which is exzema for short, and I washed my ears with it. It worked pretty good, except that some of the water went down into my ear canal and then I got an ear infection and my throat hurt, and then my jaw swole. Also, these big black circles under my eyes that come when I'm not feeling that great. The worst part of that is that one black circle is darker than the other one so they don't even match. I also washed my hair with it and it made it feel like dry straw. Not to menetion the smell is not that great and I thought it was going to make me throw up.
It really helped the itch though.
And I had a fever in my muscles, and I bent over to pick something up off the floor and darn near fell right over. I had a headache that would have knocked an elephant on it's behind, and I kept getting this pain from my shoulder down the one side of my back. It finally just stayed.
I got this chill that lasted for days. It finally left and I went outside in the cold and it came back.
I'm hoping it will leave soon. Hopefully before I have to go out again.
I haven't been sleeping that well. When I go to bed at night. Any other time I can practically fall asleep on my feet.
So I'm laying there awake and I hear this noise like someone throwing something against my bedroom window. So I'm thinking 'what was that? Are the doors locked? Are the windows locked?' Then I don't hear anything. This has happened a few times.
(Maybe it's my one true love throwing flowers at my window or something).
I wish he'de just knock on the door and introduce himself instead of scaring the ?@#%%@ in the middle of the night.
So, yeah. I guess I really started '09 off with a bang.
I'm tellin' ya though, I don't think Christmas chocolates are worth all that. Although, I did better than I usually do.
Other years I have not pigged out to that extent and I have gotten a lot sicker. So I guess my immune system must be getting back to normal. But I think I'll swear off sugar anyway.
At least until Valentines Day. (I'm joking)
Have a super weekend.
LUV&HUGS from KassyLand ...
'09 IS FINALLY HERE. :)
Hi Space Friends. I hope that 2009 is off to a good start for you. The weather is sure being wierd all over isn't it. Right now we have lot's 'n lot's of snow, and colder than I remember it being in several years. Actually what it is here where I am is just 'winter', but we haven't had a real one in so long we are really feeling the chill. It's supposed to start to warm up a little tomorrow. I can't complain about the New Year so far. Just before Christmas I started having that familiar sense that I needed to make a few adjustments with myself, so after the Big Day I just kind of 'chilled out'. (Pardon the pun). And I haven't really gotten back into the swing of 'real life' quite yet. I better get a move on or January will be over and my new self will be in the tank until 2010. I'm not really into New Years Resolutions. I just try to deal with things as they arise. But this time I started feeling kind of ... heavy. Yes. That's the right word. HEAVY So I thought, why not just take a few days, get a new view, and start again. So that's what I did. And I'm feeling much lighter now. Yes. That's a good word. LIGHTER Some of my changes are taking a while. It can take a while to develop new habits, dropping the old and taking on the new. But I'm getting it. And with all this cold weather I'm kind of house bound - not venturing out unless it's absolutely necessary - so I haven't been distracted. Yes. I'm getting it. You'll never guess what I've been doing lately. COOKING. I took over the cooking. But I've been doing pretty good. I've only created one crappy tasting mess so far, and no firefighters had to come and hose the kitchen down or anything. Maybe I'm getting that too. Maybe 2009 is my year for 'getting it'. I really like Baklava, but I only indulge once a year at Christmas because it is pretty sweet, but here where I live it has gotten hard to find, so I had this brain storm. I decided I would spend all year practicing and then at Christmas next year I would make my own Baklava. Now I know what you're thinking ... ... but I really think if I practice I can do this. It's the Phyllo pastry part that has me wondering if it's such a good idea. However, I can roll out a pretty thin Lefse. And I did make some Molasses Drop cookies - last year. And Karen really liked them. I did have that small 'incident' with the Shortbread, but that could've happened to anybody!?@#* Well, we'll see how it goes. Nothing ventured nothing gained, right??? Enough about all that for now. I just realized a few days ago, I still call my new camera my new camera. I think that's because everytime I take a picture now, I'm seeing 'new'. I know that probably sounds weird, that a little camera can make you look at things and life in a different way, but that's what it does for me. And I like it that way. I was thinking about going outside and taking a picture of all the snow that accumulated in front of our door tonight, and wondering what a close up shot of snow looks like, and wondering what it would look like if the light was sparkling through it. Maybe it would look like little diamonds against the light. I'll have to go and try it. Well, I guess that's it from KassyLand for today. I hope you all have a GREAT weekend. Be HAPPY. Stay SAFE. |
